PLUG THESE INTO YOUR COMPUTER

This is how we accessed the Internet in the old days, children. We didn't have yr fancy Apple Stores and iPads and Wi-Fis. We had to BUILD our own computers and jam our desktop telephone receivers into the modems to get them to connect to anything (which is a lot like yr granddad making copies of record albums by putting a desktop tape recorder with a condenser mike next to the stereo speakers).

dEFROG ON 45 #43: A PLACE THAT NOBODY DARED TO GO

While I’m ‘fessing up to liking Olivia Newton-John, I might as well mention that one of my favorite soundtracks growing up was Xanadu.

Which was, everyone agrees, an awful film. Great soundtrack, though – provided you like ONJ and Electric Light Orchestra. And, as has been established, I liked both very much, so it was a dream combo for me – especially the title track in which ELO serves as ONJ’s backing band.

Notice how she makes an X with her arms there?

FULL DISCLOSURE: I didn’t actually have the soundtrack – just this 45. But my first girlfriend had a copy, and we used to listen to it a lot. Or rather, we played it in the background while she was busy teaching me what I didn’t know how. If you know what I mean.

So yeah, I may be biased here – I have a lot of good memories about the Xanadu soundtrack, none of which are related to the actual film. So there you go.

Now we are here,
