BOB GUCCIONE IS DEAD ...

... And I’ve been trying to think of something relevant to post about him that doesn’t involve Penthouse (of which I was never a huge fan), Penthouse Comix (which was okay but Heavy Metal did it better), Caligula (which, let’s admit, was flawed) or a debate on whether the Penthouse Forum letters are real (I’m assured they are, though that doesn’t mean the anecdotes therein ever actually happened).

Then I remembered Omni magazine.

I actually liked Omni, and read quite a lot of it in the 80s. I liked the mix of pop-science articles, interviews and SF short stories. It filled my head with ideas and possibilities for the future.

Gizmodo sums it up nicely, which saves me a little work.

Future tense,

WE ARE THE ROBOTS, AND WE ARE THE FUTURE OF POP MUSIC

ITEM [via Singularity Hub]: And now, a robot performs J-Pop with human dancers at the
Digital Content Expo in Tokyo.

Some of you will be tempted to make Lady Gaga jokes at this point. Personally I think a Britney Spears comparison would be more accurate. Either way, it just goes to show just how far Kraftwerk were ahead of their time.

It’s this kind of thing, of course, that will lead to the inevitable robot uprising. That and sexbots.

Dance for me,
