dEFROG ON 45 #39: THE RIGHT KIND OF SINNER TO RELEASE MY INNER FANTASY

You’ve been waiting for the Pat Benatar episode of this series.

The wait is over.

Yes, I had a couple of her 45s, and eventually her first three albums (as well as the live one, which included the studio single “Love Is A Battlefield” on it). And I remember the stir she caused with her breakout single, “Heartbreaker”.

Some of that was about the album cover (and I’ll admit right now I used to stare at it, too), but much of the fuss was about the fact that she came from a classical music background and had trained to sing opera, but decided she wanted to rock out instead.

There was also a lot of hype around her “tough cookie” persona, which was pretty groundbreaking at the time. You didn’t see a lot of women fronting hard-rock bands in 1979. Not in the Top 40, anyway. And even fewer were doing it with the take-no-crap attitude that Benatar did.

Anyway, I rocked out with this 45 a lot.

Don't you mess around with me,
