IN FUTURE, YOU CAN PLAY 8-TRACK TAPES ON YR COMPUTER

Or so we thought.

Okay, not really. It’s a fake ad that apparently originates from this article.

I will say it’s a really good hoax – it’s almost believable, and only really falls apart if you ever owned both 8-track tapes and an Atari 2600, in which case the infeasibility of integrating the cartridges becomes fairly obvious.

Anyway, having grown up with both, I love idea, even if it never actually happened.

Also, FOGHAT.

BONUS TRACK: The article is worth reading for the list of other bands that [allegedly] signed on with Atari, including Kansas, Wings, Supertramp and Kenny Rogers.

My favorite is, of course, Rush:

Rush, Permanent Waves (1980)

Rush's foray into interactive 8-tracks is unique in that the game had nothing to do with the album. Instead of a game based on the hit songs like "Freewill" or "Jacob's Ladder," the band gave us "Geddy's Lee's Pancake Canoe," where the player is Geddy Lee, riding a pancake canoe down a syrup creek, trying to get the best time while avoiding forks and butter pats downstream.

Take it easy,
