LISTEN TO IT #89: ROGER WILKO!
If yr a fan of Dr Feelgood (the band, not the Motley Crue song), you probably know that guitarist Wilko Johnson has terminal cancer.
So of course he’s gone and made a record. And he’s got Roger Daltrey as his vocalist.
Apparently, the two of them have been talking about doing something together for a few years, but it was Johnson’s diagnosis (and the fact that he was still alive following a farewell concert tour) that motivated them to actually get cracking on it while there was still time. All of the tracks are old songs Johnson wrote either during his Dr Feelgood days or for his subsequent solo albums, apart from one Dylan cover.
I admit, my initial reaction is caution. But all things considered, both Johnson and Daltrey are on fine form here. It also sounds like they had a lot of fun making this, which was probably the whole point of doing it.
So this could really grow on me.
Listen and decide for yrself:
Not bad for a couple of old codgers.
Maximum R&B,
This is dF
