There's been one successful attack outside of the middle east since 9/11, to my knowledge: Bali; well outside of the areas the US is concerned about (even now). In my opinion that has nothing to do with American Imperialism or the Zionist Opressor or whatever Osama Bin Laden being raped by his CIA handler (yes, I made that bit up); that was just an excuse--the local boys who pulled that off really did it out of sour grapes because of the East Timor liberation a few years prior. (Again, my assessment only; no basis in fact.)
They did bust up what appears to have been a legitimate terrorist plot here in Australia last year. While our government (ok, former government) hasn't exactly done us proud over our own heightened security, they've done a demonstrably better job than the US has without anything like a Patriot Act or a 'Rendition Center' in Guantanamo Bay.
I admit I'm a bit afraid to see what they have out on Nauru, though.
