LET’S RIDE THE TIGER
While we’re getting all nostalgic for college radio ...
I have an iPod. It’s got 7,298 songs on it at the moment, which is about 1/35 of the CDs in my shelves right now. I tend to let the full song list circulate, and while they’re all good (else they wouldn’t be there), sometimes you get a showstopper – a song that demands to be listened to repeatedly.
One of them is “River Euphrates” by The Pixies.
There are several versions to be enjoyed, but my personal favorite – and the one that resides on the iPod – is this one: the B-side cut.
As one of the YouTube commenters said: “This song tears your face off.”
I can’t possibly top that.
FACT: I saw the Pixies live once, circa 1991 at Vanderbilt University. They were everything I hoped for. Kim Deal chain-smoked the entire show. That’s so hardcore.
Kim Deal = best back-up vocalist EVER.
Opening act: Barkmarket. Not quite so awesome, but we had fun.
One sip from the salty wine,
This is dF
