THE COSELL/LENNON CONNECTION
When you think of Monday Night Football, you don’t really think of John Lennon. But he actually made an appearance with Howard Cosell in 1974.
Which I mention because it would be Cosell who would break the news of Lennon’s assassination six years later.
Which I also mention because Cosell’s announcement itself is one of the most powerful moments in broadcasting. Cosell somehow managed to convey the shock and violence of the murder in a single sentence that took just 15 seconds to say.
