Adjusted for inflation, that's about $23 million – cheap by today's standards. They made "Pitch Black" for $23 million...

But pitch Black didn't blow half the budget tying to film underwater, on location, after a hurricane. Visibility zero.

Or show the press preview underwater, with scuba gear, so they couldn't hear the movie anyway.
