WARNER MUSIC: SO TOUGH ON COPYRIGHT WE’LL BAN OUR OWN YOUTUBE CHANNEL

ITEM [via BoingBoing]: The YouTube Copyright Infringement Paradox has finally happened.

Warner Music Group (WMG) has been using YouTube’s automated takedown tool to ban unauthorized uploWMG music video. Result: they’ve managed to ban official videos that WMG uploaded onto YouTube itself.

Here’s how much fun that is – go to the Official Sire Records site, pick an artist and try to play the video – which happens to be an embedded YouTube video – and in most cases here’s what will happen.

Is that not awesome stupid?

It couldn’t happen to a nicer company. WMG is the same label that does things like this: leaving video of a group intact but blocking the audio because they “own” that part but not the visuals of the band whose music they own.

Like so.

And music label honchos wonder why music fans hate their guts.

Full circle,

This is dF

EDITED TO ADD [15 minutes later]:
Seems that in between the time I checked out the Sire site and posted this, Sire itself has realized what's going on. All the YouTube videos on their AV site are gone. Still, let the record show that WMG doesn't understand this thing you call Internet.
