THE PHANTOM OF THE OPRY IS HERE INSIDE MY MIND

People often ask me how I learned to love B-grade horror movies. Well, like most people, I learned in the traditional American way: from TV horror hosts.

Almost every major city had one in the 60s and 70s, I think. Some were syndicated nationwide (Vampira, Zacherley, etc), but most were local people. Somehow, even Nashville had one:

Sir Cecil Creape, the Phantom of the Opry.





Yes. Explains a lot, doesn't it?

I have my dad to thank for even knowing who he is. He would let me stay up late to watch Creature Feature with him. The film I remember most is Dr X, for some reason.

Anyway, it looks cornball now, but to my eight-year-old self it was good creepy fun. And then Elvira came along to bring me to manhood (so to speak).
