IN SPACE, NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU MOAN

ITEM: Sex is not allowed on the International Space Station. Ever.

In case you were wondering.

"We are a group of professionals," said Alan Poindexter, a NASA commander, during a visit to Tokyo, when asked about the consequences if astronauts boldly went where no others have been.

"We treat each other with respect and we have a great working relationship. Personal relationships are not ... an issue," said a serious-faced Mr Poindexter. "We don't have them and we won't."

Also, it’s a lot of work and the jism gets EVERYWHERE in zero gravity, says Violet Blue. (On the bright side, bondage is pretty much a minimum requirement.)

The jokes write themselves, but on the other hand I can see why they’d want to keep it professional, the (apparent) lack of single astronauts notwithstanding. Workplace relationships are complicated enough on the ground, let alone in a confined space 400 km above the Earth.

On a side note, I find it interesting that the question of orbital sex is only coming up now that the male/female ratio of astronauts on the ISS is evening up.

I’m just saying.

Hands off,
