LET BLOWJOBBERS GO FREE
ITEM [via Don’t Tase Me Bro!]: In 1997 Wendy Whitaker, a 17 year old high school sophomore, had oral sex with a sixteen year old classmate, and was arrested under Georgia’s sodomy laws. Because of that arrest she was registered as a sex offender. Because of her sex offender status she and her husband have been evicted from their home which is located within 1000 feet of a school.
Imagine that.
Imagine being kicked out of yr house because you had oral sex with yr boyfriend/girlfriend in high school when you were both minors. Imagine actually being arrested for such a thing. Imagine having to tell the police where you live for the rest of yr life, all for the crime of being a teenager with a sex drive.
This is one reason of many why I’ve never cared for sex offender registries. They only serve to punish people long after they’ve served their time out of sheer vindictiveness. Even if you don’t have a problem with that when it comes to rapists, child molesters and other subhumans, the laws also don’t solve the perceived problem. As if a sex offender can’t walk, bicycle or drive a whole 1,001 feet to the nearest school or day care center.
All I can add is that if Ms Whitaker is a benchmark for what qualifies as a sex offense, then I’m guilty as charged – as are probably 55% of America’s teenagers.
