SO ARE THE VAMPIRES LESBIANS, OR ARE THE VAMPIRE KILLERS LESBIANS, OR WHAT?
Coming soon to a DVD store near you, the latest “The Title Is The Synopsis” horror movie:
Lesbian Vampire Killers! Starring the blokes from Gavin and Stacey!
My B-movie instincts tell me that it really wants to be as funny as Shaun Of The Dead, but probably isn’t.
My instincts seem to be paying off, judging from initial reviews, which are all bad. Although The Sun likes it. Well, they would, wouldn’t they?
Some real-life lesbians aren’t very happy with it either, though they weren’t happy with it a year before it came out. Still, I can see why. I’d be a hypocrite if I said that I don’t find watching hot chicks making out highly entertaining – because sweet Jesus, I do – but I can also see why a group of people currently fighting for equal rights and trying to be taken seriously don’t like seeing their sexual identity reduced to a cheap B-movie gimmick – much less one that needs killin’.
And while I seriously doubt the filmmakers intended the movie to be a subliminal message that lesbians are wicked and evil and need to be killed, I can just hear Bill O’Reilly or Glenn Beck or Jim Dobson or someone praising the film as an allegory of the dangers of the Homosexual Agenda and a call-to-action to protect society from ruthless lesbian vampire gangs.
But that’s probably more intellectual analysis than the movie merits. Either way, the trailer is plenty of LVK for me.
READ MORE ABOUT IT: The lesbian vampire genre is nothing new, incidentally. Click here for a brief history of lesbian vampires in literature and film. And click here for some direct-to-video titles.
