And you’ll be hearing about how he was one of the greats in pro wrestling. Which is true, though my friends and I used to complain that the WWF in its heyday had become the Toon Town of wrestling. And certainly his Macho Man persona and the whole Hulk Hogan/Miss Elizabeth love triangle soap opera gimmick were instrumental in taking pro wrestling to new heights of absurdity, for better or worse.
But we still watched.
This is one of many reasons why.
It’s well-known that I prefer my wrestlers in Heel mode, especially when it comes to promos, but Savage could even give good promos in Babyface mode. He had fun with it, and that’s all you can ask.
