defrogI am getting on a bus with Barack Obama. It’s part of a press tour of some kind, though I don’t remember why.
As we get on the bus, we have to present photo ID badges issued to us by the tour organizer. I pull mine out and I see for the first time that while the photo is of me, the name, company and job title are completely false – apparently it’s meant to be a cover identity. Which is fine, but no one told me in advance, and I didn’t look closely at the badge when they handed it to me earlier.
The security guy looks over my badge suspiciously, and asks me what I do. The badge says I’m head of OPCD, so I tell him that. He asks me what OPCD means, and I have no idea, so I improvise.
“Office of Procurement Services Division,” I say.
He gives me a look. “In that case, shouldn’t it be OPSD?”
I’m stuck for an answer, but we’ve got a schedule to keep, so the security guy waves me onto the bus. Obama is already on the bus, and has been shaking hands with everyone on it, but now we’re all seated and ready to go, so he doesn’t get around to shaking mine.
“Figures,” I think, but I’m not all that worried about it.
And then I woke up.
