Sometimes they’re about animals.
And as March 1 was World Horse Day, well …
BACKGROUNDER: In 2021, I did a playlist of cow songs for Chinese New Year, it being the Year Of The Ox and all. A few weeks after that, bedsitter23 came across this set from BBC Radio’s Gideon Coe in which he did three hours with songs about horses, and brought it to my attention.
So, you know, challenge accepted, etc.
METHODOLOGY: I didn’t intend to avoid any selections from Coe’s playlist. In fact. I put a lot of the playlist together before I even looked at his, just to see what would happen. And as it turns out, the amount of overlap was surprisingly small. I think this is partly because Coe widened his scope to include references to mules, donkeys and zebras, while I stayed focused on horses and ponies. Also, Coe allowed horse-related band names, which is something I’ve thought about doing in the past, but haven’t. At least not yet.
Anyway, the only guideline I took from Coe was a three-hour time limit, since that’s how long his set was.
