THE FIRST GREAT ALBUM OF 2008 ...
Feb. 28th, 2008 10:40 pm... is by The Sons & Daughters.
Their first full-length LP a couple of years ago, The Repulsion Box, really knocked me for a loop. I eventually bought their debut EP Love The Cup, and was equally impressed.
Now they’ve tweaked their sound, ditching the Scottish folk influences and murder ballads for something more poppy – and to my surprise, it works.
Evidence: lead off single “Gilt Complex”.
See also: new single “Darling”.
And these aren’t even the best songs on the album.
And the second great of album of 2008? It will probably be the new Duke Spirit album, if the first single is anything to go by:
Am I not good to you?
Now go and give these people yr cash.
Something to believe in,
