HOW I WON THE WAR, PART 80,432,343

Senator John McCain knows how to win him some wars. He said so in Albuquerque, NM. So it must be true.

I know how to win wars. I know how to win wars. And if I’m elected President, I will turn around the war in Afghanistan, just as we have turned around the war in Iraq, with a comprehensive strategy for victory, I know how to do that.

From what I can tell, his strategy for winning wars is: just keep fighting until the other guy gives up. Or you kill everyone on the other side. And to be fair, either would definitely work. One day. Eventually. If we were fighting an actual country with an actual army and not a bunch of terrorists and insurgents motivated by the sheer fact that we’re in their country in the first place.

Amusingly, however, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki seems to prefer the Obama strategy for winning wars: i.e. getting the hell out of his country in 18 months.

EDITED TO ADD [7/23]: Regarding al-Maliki's comments on the Obama strategy, a fascinating case of spin has been unfolding. al-Maliki's supposed spokesperson said [via CENTCOM] that the PM's remarks were "mistranslated" and Der Spiegel's translator got it wrong. Only it was al-Maliki's own translator who made the translation. And Der Spiegel has since produced the original audio of the interview, which has been verified by other media sources via their own translators.
