Looks like I’ve picked up some new viewers, so welcome to
nebris ,
jblaque and
retrofire . At this rate I should have as many LJ friends as
popfiend by 2019.
Anyway, now is as good a time as any to mention one core fact about me:
Music has always been a crucial part of my life. Yes, I know, everyone says that. But I’ve got close to 2,000 CDs sitting on my shelves. I’ve been in three (3) bands. And I spent endless rainy nights staring out the windscreen of my Subaru listening to Henry Rollins, The Smiths and Husker Du asking me to give it just one more day.
So believe what I tell you. Music is the lover that kept me going all these years (at least until the bridal unit came along).
Naturally I’m not unique in that respect. But it begs the question: why does music affect us like that? How does it establish that emotional mesh network between musicians and the audience?
Science may have the answer – check out this interesting article from Scientific American on new research that sheds some light on the nature of music and how we process it. I like the idea that music is a form of innate language and the closest thing we have to full-on telepathy right now.
On the other hand, if that's too intellectual, maybe we should just shut up and listen to Cansei Sei der Sexy’s “Music Is My Hot Hot Sex”, which pretty much sums up my entire relationship with music.
PRODUCTION NOTE: This is not the original video – it’s the song set to random old movie footage. And some of it includes vintage nudity. So it is NSFW. But it’s pretty entertaining.
My favorite mistress,
