ITEM [via [livejournal.com profile] ayoub ]: So Edward Woodward is gone.

Which means Americans will probably be seeing a lot of clips from The Equalizer.

I have to admit, I didn’t see that much of the show, as I was living overseas for much of its run. But I did like the idea of a middle-aged British ex-spy playing vigilante hero, if only because generally, the only Brit accents you ever heard in American prime time TV shows were either on public television or people playing “foreign” villains. So The Equalizer was pretty gutsy by US network standards.

For me, though, here’s how I’ll remember Woodward: as Sgt Howie in one of the creepiest movies ever made.

ITEM [via BoingBoing]: From the author of the bestselling Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed! comes the sequel Help! Mom! Radicals Are Ruining My Country!

Featuring Nancy Pelosi as the Evil Queen.

Follow Tommy and Lou as they struggle to keep their swing set business afloat despite 246 czars, onerous regulations and sky-high taxes in these troubling times.  Will Tommy and Lou finally decide to join the other kids on the corner in standing up for freedom or will they continue to fear being vilified by the press and demeaned by Marxus Obundus (“the One”)?

Cute.

I don’t particularly have a problem with this, as long as we understand each other on one point: conservatives don’t get to complain about liberals indoctrinating children with political propaganda anymore.

Also, I agree with the comments at BoingBoing that as children’s books go, the art design is really crappy.

Youth of today,
