BAD DREAM MAMA
Jun. 10th, 2010 06:51 pmI had one of those dreams last night.
You know, the one where yr traveling in a van with yr office colleagues on a mountain road where either side is a steep cliff, and the driver isn’t paying attention and the van slips off the edge and starts to go over ...
And the next thing you know yr seaside, sitting in a deck chair at a cafe run by a Japanese family in the back of a ferry terminal of some kind, disoriented and wondering if yr friends are still alive and wondering if yr spouse knows where you are, because YOU sure don’t ...
That dream. Yes.
Like most dreams, the details make little sense, But basically, I was assuming that the van dropped into the sea and I somehow washed up at this beachside terminal, and I’d been sitting there for hours before it occurred to me to ask for water and food. A Japanese woman sitting nearby seemed to be waiting for me to ask, or at least say something. And there was this default assumption that she was there to watch me and make sure I was okay.
The main thing I remember was sitting there stunned and disoriented, unsure of how I got there, if the thing with the van really happened and if so, were there any survivors. And I wasn’t sure if the bridal unit had been in the van at the time, and either way I wasn’t sure where she was or how to get in contact with her, or what I should do next.
Then I woke up facing the bridal unit and heaved a sigh of relief.
And do you know what she did? Do you know what she told me?
She looked right at me and said, “Now don't you worry 'bout a thing, it’s just a bad dream, mama, so let's get ourselves together and roll.”
