defrog: (what would devo do)
Speaking of the whole Mark Twain thing, Iconic Photos offers another example of censorship as revisionist history: pretending that famous people of the 20th Century never smoked.

For example, Jackson Pollock never smoked.

Nor did Robert Johnson.

Even Churchill would rather chew gum than light up a stogie.

This has been going on for awhile now, of course. And as usual, it’s all about Setting Examples for the children by pretending the world is now and has always been a nicer place than it is.

America: we never smoked, and we never used racial epithets to describe black people.

Anyone got a match,

I used to collect stuff like this. Until it got me in dutch with West German airport security, resulting in my first ever strip search.

Seriously.

At least they were cute.

Anyway, more comics-related buttons here for the enthusiast.

Also, can I say how much I love the idea of Secret Society members wearing buttons identifying themselves? Hide in plain sight, etc.

The world’s worst kept secret,

This is dF
