ITEM: The Utah House of Representatives has passed a measure naming the Browning M1911 semiautomatic handgun as the official state firearm.

The State Senate and Governor Gary Herbert are expected to approve the measure with vigor and enthusiasm.

Which I find amusing, of course.

The arguments don’t interest me because you’ve heard them all before. The politicians supporting it are trotting out the same tired old polemics to the point where I could swear they’re only doing this because they get a kick out of teasing liberals with this stuff.

But it does make me think that – considering most states have the same symbol categories (state slogan, state bird, state flower, state theme song, etc) – if this passes, at least some states (i.e. the ones currently run by Republicans) are going to come up with their own “me too” official state gun symbols.

And why not? If yr going to fetishize and glorify guns as a national birthright, you might as well pick a favorite mascot in the name of state pride. That’s what the Founding Fathers™ would have wanted.

I can’t wait to see what the other 49 states choose for their state gun.

Here’s my personal recommendation for my home state of Tennessee:

The General Electric M134 Minigun.

Because – when you absolutely positively got to kill every motherfucker in the room and an AK-47 isn’t available – it is the best gun EVER.

DISCLAIMER: The General Electric M134 Minigun doesn’t have anything in particular to do with Tennessee. But that’s not really the point, is it?

State of alert,

This is dF
