Previously on dEFROG On 45:
The same is arguably true of Ray Stevens, though on a different level. In the country music scene he was pretty well known, having worked as songwriter, session musician, producer and even A&R since the early 60s, and having done plenty of “serious” country music.
To the rest of us, though, he was the guy who did comedy songs like “Ahab The Arab” and “The Streak” – which were funny as hell to those of us still in elementary school.
And obviously, it’s the comedy side of his career that Stevens has focused on ever since, though today he’s probably more appreciated by the Tea Party in that regard. Still, you can’t argue with the guy who practically made Branson, MO what it is today.
Anyway, point being, I had a few of his songs on 45, yes. This is the one that I still find amusing.
Shut up baby I’m tryin’ to sing,

Growing up in Nashville in the 70s, inevitably, meant at the very least a passing familiarity with the Charlie Daniels Band.
