dEFROG ON 45 #38-39: STICK AROUND, I SAY
Dec. 14th, 2011 09:24 amContinuing on the “solo Beatles on 45” riff from the last episode …
It’s a sad but true fact that a lot of people my age – or at least people who didn’t have hip parents – grew up thinking Paul McCartney’s first band was Wings.
Wings weren’t the coolest band in the world to like. So naturally I dug them. I mean, c’mon, they did one of the best James Bond themes ever recorded.
That said, I didn’t have many 45s by them. I didn’t need them, since I had a Wings Greatest Hits album. But I did have this.
Which technically wasn’t a Wings single – it was from a solo McCartney album. But I believe Wings plays on the live version on the B-side.
Which is another thing – this was the first time I saw both the studio and live version of the same song on a 45. Like most radio music directors at the time, I preferred the live version for some reason. (See also: Stevie Nicks)
Oh, and there was also this disco classic.
Well, like I said, Wings weren’t the coolest band in the world. But admit it, you'd prefer this over most anything in the Top 40 right now.
Don’t get too tired for love,
