BLACKBERRIES IN A MINOR
Feb. 6th, 2013 11:58 amAs a journalist, I get press releases.
Sometimes they’re from 14-time Grammy winners.
As you might guess, it’s not often that music artists find their way into my inbox. The last time it happened was probably when HTC invested in Dr Dre's headphones business. Then there was that 2006 press conference with Juliette Lewis promoting a mobile blogging site for musicians.
Anyway, I don’t really listen to Alicia Keys much. I’m sure he has the business chops for the job, but I will say she has her work cut out for her. In the smartphone arena, BlackBerry is widely regarded as a sinking ship, and their new BB10 platform isn’t expected to change that much.
On the bright side, she has Robert Rodriguez and Neil Gaiman on board for her first big project:
I have no idea what that means. But I am a fan of Rodriguez and Gaiman.
And they’re both here in this promotional video, if yr interested.
So, you know, good luck to everyone. Because these things don't always go well.
Girl on fire,
This is dF

At this morning’s launch event, Keys revealed BlackBerry’s new “Keep Moving” Project, which engages BlackBerry users in exclusive and compelling experiences created by inspirational and multi-faceted artists, writers, designers, filmmakers, musicians, and athletes. Renowned film director Robert Rodriguez (El Mariachi, From Dusk Till Dawn, Sin City), and author Neil Gaiman (Coraline, Stardust, The Sandman) will join Keys as the first three “BlackBerry Partners” leveraging the power of the new platform to create original content and special user engagements. The essence of these creative projects is that they are collaborations between the artist, BlackBerry and BlackBerry users around the world.
