ITEM [Via Sloth Unleashed]: Slate has posted some cartoons by Jackie Ormes, who is credited as the first female African-American cartoonist. Her Patty-Jo ‘n’ Ginger series ran every week in the Pittsburgh Courier from 1945 to 1956. 

And as you can see, Patty-Jo had something to say about the state of the nation.

I confess I’d never even heard of Ormes or Patty Jo ‘n’ Ginger before. So this is a really cool find for me.
