Continuing our coverage of year-end lists, iTunes has released its top-selling digital albums and singles for 2007. Notice how, despite the InterWub’s rep for giving new bands exposure they’d never get via the usual analog channels of broadcast radio, MTV and music store positioning, the biggest names on iTunes are still the usual Corporate Music suspects.

TOP 10 ALBUMS ON THE ITUNES

1. Maroon 5, It Won't Be Soon Before Long
2. Amy Winehouse, Back To Black
3. Kanye West, Graduation
4. Daughtry, Daughtry
5. Colbie Caillat, Coco
6. Linkin Park, Minutes to Midnight
7. Various Artists, High School Musical 2 OST
8. Timbaland, Shock Value
9. John Mayer, Continuum
10.Various Artists, Hairspray OST

Compare this with the Top 10 CDs of 2007 from Nielsen/SoundScan:

Now, this list could change between now and 2008, what with music sales likely to spike in the next couple of weeks, but in general terms we can learn a few things about the music business here:

1. Maroon 5 fans are more likely than Nickelback fans to have computers.

2. Whether you like yr music digital or physical, Disney has way too much money.

3. Winning a reality TV show contest is still a more effective way of getting discovered in the US than MySpace (at least in the US – in the UK, Lily Allen and Kate Nash may beg to differ).

4. In the 21st Digital Century, diversity is still no match for watered-down weak-ass corporate product.

More on #4 when we come back.
