ITEM: The Flying Spaghetti Monster has arrived at the Cumberland County, TN courthouse, whose lawn is a designated “free speech zone”.

Says the Crossville Chronicle:
This interests me, because of the perennial debate about whether or not govt buildings should be allowed to display the 10 Commandments (which is crucial to national security).
My personal take on it has always been – as the ACLU letter mentioned above implies – if yr going to post a religious document on govt property, you should allow for equal time for all other religions. If it’s okay to post the 10C, then you should have no objection if someone wants to post the Islamic Prohibitions (all 38 of them) next to it, or the Five Precepts of Buddhism, or the Wiccan Rede, or Scientology’s Third Party Law, or the Church of Satan's 11 Rules Of The Earth, or whatever.
People who want the 10C and Nativity scenes on govt property, of course, never, EVER agree to this, and start babbling about America’s Christian heritage and other slogans.
Nice to see someone’s actually giving it a try, and in my home state, no less – although I do object to the term “free speech zone”. Fuck zones. Every square inch of America is a free speech zone.
Apart from that, though, by all means carry on – at least until the mayor gets sick of yr crap and tells everyone to get the hell out of his yard.
Order in the court,
This is dF

The free speech zone began in 2006 after the American Civil Liberties Union in Nashville sent the county a letter asking if the display of a Moses statue meant the county was creating a free speech zone.
