THE CHOCOLATE WAR OF THE WORLDS

Here’s a headline I don’t get in my inbox every day:



My first thought, of course, was: “Mars needs chocolate!”

Cue ponderings of possible sci-fi story involving an evil plot by Martians to map the cocoa genome and secretly augment it with their own DNA. One gamma-ray “accident” later, the world’s chocolate bars are transformed into a mutant hive-mind army with orders to destroy all humans. But their plot is foiled when Special Agent Jimmy Dean Heavy develops an ingenious plan to accelerate global warming and melt the army. Or Cookie Monster eats them all. Or something.

Of course, they’re talking about Mars Inc, not the planet Mars. Still, how do we know Mars Inc isn’t a front for some braniac Martian performing recon for the invasion?

This is the kind of stuff I think about when I’m hungry, it’s raining and I have a deadline looming.

Still, that’s this year’s NaNoWriMo plot sorted.
