VERMONT IS THE NEW IOWA

ITEM [via kukla_red ]: Vermont has become the fourth state to legalize gay marriage — and the first to do so with a legislature's vote, as both the house and senate collected enough votes to override Gov Jim Douglas’ promised veto.

Gay marriage opponents blame the victory on teh gayz having "a highly funded, extremely well-oiled machine”. Which is kinda hot when you put it that way.

Meanwhile, on the same day, the DC Council voted 12-0 to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states (even though gay marriage itself isn’t legal in DC – yet).

Meanwhile, in possibly related news, President Obama just appointed gay activist Harry Knox to the White House Office of Faith-Based & Neighborhood Partnerships.

Which is cool. Except for the White House having a faith-based advisory channel. I was rather hoping Obama would kill that. But if he did that. everyone would think he was Muslim again, so I’m willing to give that one a little time.

And to think we have Iowa to thank for this.
