Via Mostly Forbidden Zone:

Step out with the popular group!

Join the school band

How times change.

Or maybe not. Apparently you get to perform simulated sexual intercourse in high school bands, if you believe people like Frederica Wilson.

Somehow I doubt it. If that was true, high school band would be a lot more popular than it is.

DISCLAIMER: I’m assuming the school band is as “cool” today as it was when I was in high school. Which is to say, not really, no.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I was never in the School Band (no electric guitar section, you see).

Smells like teen spirit,

This is dF

Somewhere in my collection of actual vinyl records is a sampler put out in the '70s by a company that specialized in high school band arrangements. The reason I've hung onto it all these years? A marching band arrangement of Helen Reddy's "I Am Woman" and a school concert band arrangement of selections from Rick Wakeman's "Six Wives of Henry VIII". When I find it, I'll digitize both and upload them to the intarwebs. Just because.

...obviously, we were not in or around the same school, because if they were, in fact, having happy fun time out on the field instead of rolling 20 sided dice in the green room, I would been dating marching band nerds rather than wannabe rock band musicians.

I played trumpet in the school band, but I got out of being in the marching band because I was also a cadet.

That's right, I got to march around without an instrument.
