ITEM: The Santiago, Chile branch of ad agency DDB comes up with an admittedly creative campaign for home security company ADT – pretending to break into people’s homes.
The gimmick: slip a spring-loaded box under the door, and it pops into box shape. Printed on the box: an ADT logo and the message, “Breaking into homes is easier than you think.”
This marketing campaign video explains.
It’s actually pretty clever – provided ADT’s marketing objective was to either (1) render their own point invalid (since technically they didn’t actually break into anyone’s home) or (2) freak out people who don’t realize how the box got there by making them think ADT employees are breaking into houses and planting boxes. Because I doubt most recipients saw the boxes and thought, “Gee, maybe I should give ADT a call.”
Anyway, it’s interesting that they tried this in Chile. If they tried this in the US, the police would get so many phone calls that the DHS would raise the terror threat level to Severe. Because as we all know, if yr not sure what it is, it’s probably a bomb.
Unless you live in New Orleans, I mean.
