As you may have gathered, living in Hong Kong means I get to travel to a lot of far away and exotic countries.

Like the US, for example.

Well, it’s foreign and exotic to me these days – and increasingly so. That happens when you live in a foreign city longer than you’ve lived anywhere else apart from yr hometown. The culture shock isn’t that big, of course – I speak fluent East Tennessee, and I can drive on the left side of the road pretty well. And even when I was living the US, I often felt like a foreigner in my own country anyway.

Still, it says a lot that this trip, my sister had this exchange with her eight-year-old daughter (my niece):

Niece: Where is Hong Kong, exactly?
Sister: It’s in China.
Niece: Oh. No wonder Uncle John and Aunt Katie look Chinese.
Me: I’m so blogging that.

So there you go. (I know. I had no idea I looked Chinese either.)

Anyway, it was a hectic trip, but a good one in regards to catching up with friends, though sadly a few couldn’t make it (there were an unusual number of business trips and funerals this trip). Either way, I figure I can milk another four (4) blog posts out of it.

Lucky you.

BACKGROUND: The bridal unit and I traveled to three (3) US cities: (1) Maryville-Alcoa, TN to visit my family and a few friends, (2) Nashville, to visit more friends and (3) Chicago, to visit even more friends and get a decent hot dog.

Stand by for bloggery,
