defrogBy now most of you have seen this:
Which shouldn’t surprise anyone – not least the people who advocated building the fence in the first place, though I’m sure when they envisaged The 700-Mile Fence, they were thinking something more along the lines of (and I’m just pulling this example out of the air here) the Berlin Wall or something, not a bunch of stupid poles.
Well, that’s Big Govt Wasteful Spending for you.

DISCLAIMER: It’s worth mentioning that the video makes it look easy, and for all I know that’s not actually part of the 700-mile fence. Also, if it is, some commenters on YouTube have pointed out that you could fix it by electrifying the fence (but then who’d want to foot the electricity bill to power up 700 miles of fence?) or by posting border guards waiting for them on the other side (though if the states had that kind of manpower, you wouldn’t need a wall in the first place).
Still, whether it’s the actual fence or not, the lesson is pretty basic: if you build a wall/fence/whatever, people will find a way to get over, under or around it. At which point it’s fair to ask if it’s worth the effort and expense to build a wall that doesn’t really solve the basic problem of people crossing the border illegally.
Especially since racial profiling is relatively cheaper. Maybe.
Oh well.
