Speaking of Star Wars on 45 …
One thing about Star Wars that’s always impressed me is that the theme music was almost as big of a hit as the film itself. They even released the main title as a 45 single, and it got quite a bit of airplay – enough to crack the Billboard Top 10. To my knowledge, it was the first and only time you ever heard a pure symphony piece on a Top 40 radio station.
I had a copy, of course. And I wore out both sides whilst playing with my Star Wars toys.
The best part: this was the B-side.
Which is awesome – not least because it proves the intergalactic popularity of steel-drum jazz.
