defrogGiven my possibly harsh criticism of the new Muppet film, I feel duty-bound to mention that I am a major fan of the Muppets. I used to watch the TV show when I was a teenager. And of course, the first Muppet movie is one of the greatest films ever made.
I had the soundtrack album and everything. And before that, I had a 45 single of “Rainbow Connection”. However, the B-side tended to get a lot more plays.
This being the B-side.
Think for a moment of how advanced this song is for what is frequently said to be a kids film: two bachelors in a bar commiserating about how women are heartbreakers and men still keep chasing them like the fools we are. I don’t think you could get away with that in a “kids” film today – not without Fox News starting some silly meme about how the Muppets are misogynists who encourage kids to drink beer.
Or something.
