ITEM: A woman at a Mitt Romney campaign says Obama should be tried and convicted for treason. Romney doesn’t argue the point with her. The Left makes much hay of this – not so much because they think it means Romney agrees that Obama should be tried for treason, but because he doesn’t have the backbone to stand up to batshit voters.
Some people have referred to it as a missed “McCain moment”, in reference to John McCain being confronted with Obama paranoia during his own campaign and refusing to go along with it. Essentially, Mitt was handed a golden opportunity to set himself apart from the Batshit Conspiracy Vote, and blew it.
That said, who could blame him? We all know how that worked out for McCain – he was booed for his effort, and he eventually lost the election. Chances are Mitt has been taking that into consideration when he comes across people like this, and has concluded it’s better to humor these people – or in this case try to dance around them with a non-answer – than argue with them (especially when everyone else in the room applauds them for spouting batshit).
Either way, the incident does serve as a reminder that by embracing the extreme wing, the GOP in general has put Romney in a position where he can’t (or at least thinks he can’t) afford to alienate people who openly buy into Obama conspiracy theories if he wants to win the presidency.
And let’s all ponder that for a moment.
BONUS TRACK: Why is Obama accused of treason? Well, lots of reasons, really – most of them to do with the notion that he’s a foreigner and a Muslim, and America is currently at war with both, which makes Obama the enemy we’re at war with, and …
Oh, the hell with it. Click the links if you want to know more. I’d get a sandwich and a beverage first – they’re REALLY long articles.
Or, you can check out this bit from New Hampshire state rep Harry Accornero, who says Presidente Obama "is guilty of treason by giving aid and comfort to the enemy and attempting to overthrow our government from within" because he won’t keep immigrants out of America while we’re at war.
Or, you can take advice from Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick (R-PA), who says even if Obama hasn't committed treason yet, he's planning to just as soon as he's re-elected.
No more questions,
