All the arguments you hear today about the above topics? People were saying the same things about them 45 years ago. And they sounded kind of silly then, too.
Pat Paulsen thought so. And he nailed it to the wall in these spoof editorials.
“A gun is a necessity. Who knows, if yr walking down the street, you’ll spot a moose.”
Notice also the intentional slurring of sentences. “Thisil furble sibliniddble unbwyr communist.”
This is why I think that Paulsen is probably one of the most underrated political comedians ever. People point to Bill Hicks and George Carlin a lot, and justifiably so, but only Paulsen actually turned his act into actual (if satirical) presidential campaigns. He even got on the ballot in a few states. And he almost beat George H.W. Bush in the 1992 North Dakota primary.
