We are late.

It’s raining so hard the ferry is under special speed restrictions. The roof hisses with pounding rain. Heavy thunder, brilliant lightning, visibility under a nautical mile. (Okay, I admit I have no idea what a nautical mile is, but it sounds pretty dire.)

Could be worse. My shoes could be full of water like they were yesterday. Or I could be tied up outside a drugstore waiting for my master to get off the phone.

Wet wet wet,

ITEM: Music-based videogames, such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band, are having a significant and positive impact on music sales, according to a Jacobs Media web survey.

Of respondents who have played such games, nearly one-third say they’ve purchased songs featured on the games, the survey says.

In a way, I’m not surprised. Radio and MTV are deadweights in terms of promoting music, so it’s inevitable that music will find other promotion channels, be it car commercials, MySpace, Starbucks or The O.C. So why not a videogame? Sure. You’ve just got the high score on Rock Band – why not celebrate by buying a copy of the song as a memento of yr accomplishment?

That said, I wonder who’s getting the most benefit, saleswise – the lesser known bands on the soundtrack, or Slash?

Shut up and play yr guitar,

Harvey Korman is dead, I hear.

So you may be seeing a lot of this.

And this.

Great stuff. And there’s more where that came from (although the Carol Burnett Show stuff is the highlight).

I'm not big on celebrity deaths, no, but Korman is worth mentioning – he’s one of those great comic character actors who couldn’t break out of the decade that defined him, but looking back on his work now, he still makes me laugh.

Respect.

That 70s comedian,
