Well, damn, I only just got the news. Jerry Reed is dead.

There’s a ton of songs I could post as tribute, but this is my all-time favorite – and it’s also the second song of his I ever heard.

The first song by Reed I ever heard is unavailable on the Internets, but it’s the B-side of this song: “The Preacher And The Bear”, which my dad (who worked in the Nashville music business and got a lot of free records) played for my sister and I, figuring we would find it funny. We did. And it was awhile before it occurred to me to play the other side.

Awesome.

Additional ramblings here.

There’s more behind that screen shot. They’re worth the click.

I like that they also work if you read the collection as one long poem.

I’ll ask the questions,

In case you were all wondering why Al Gore invented the Internets, here’s yr answer:

The "I have more foreign policy experience than Sarah Palin" Facebook group.

Sample posts:

"I live above a Greek family and next to an Egyptian family. I'm more qualified than Sarah Palin."

"I recently ate Chinese food which makes me an expert on US-China relations."

"I'm from Taiwan. Can I be VP?"

There are also numerous International House of Pancakes jokes.

Like all good joke sites, the group has already started degenerating into an all-purpose Palin-bashing site, and has generated enough press that conservatives are flocking there to flame everyone. In other words, it’s already evolved into business as usual vis a vis the mindless jabbering talking-point hatefest that passes for political discourse in America. So it's probably not worth spending too much time there now.

Great idea, though.

As for Palin, I’d just as soon not blog about her any more than strictly necessary, so regarding the Big Speech, all I have to say about it is that she did what she came to do. She made her case and the GOP fell in love. So much so that they’re probably wishing she was the one with top billing.

More importantly, she won over the only group that mattered: the conservative talk radio hosts.

Mission accomplished.

So you’ll be seeing a lot of her in the next few months, is what I’m saying.

GOD, this is going to be good.

Overqualified,
