Since I’m not smart enough to write a scathing critique of America’s shiny new $700 billion bailout plan funded almost entirely by tax breaks (see what they did there?), you’ll have to settle for me diddling around with the LOLbuilder at PunditKitchen.

Here’s what I have so far:

Too obvious? Well, I only got five hours of sleep last night.

Anyway, whatever one thinks of the bailout, the real story is going to be what happens next. The $700 billion is just the start. It’s not a magick fix. The follow-through is what’s going to matter. And if Japan’s experience is any indication, it’s going to cost you a lot more than $700 billion.

Maybe. What do I know? I’m the guy who just posted an LOLpaulson picture. But I have five American dollars that says we haven’t heard the last of this.

Which, unfortunately, means I have to put up with grandstanding Congresscritters saying the words “Main Street” and “socialism” over and over and over as though they actually know what either of them means.

Money (that’s what I want),

Hmm? What’s that? No, I didn’t watch the debate, apart from the highlights reel. Yes, they did show it on local TV here. Twice. On two channels. Why bother losing 90 minutes of my life when I can just read the FactCheck summary and have all the spin filtered out?

Both sides are claiming total victory, of course. My favorite summary is from Michelle Malkin:

"Sarah Palin is the real deal. Five weeks on the campaign trail, thrust onto the national stage, she rocked tonight's debate. She was warm, fresh, funny, confident, energetic, personable, relentless, and on message."

Michelle, of course, is the same person who thinks that everyone of Arab or Mexican descent – as well as Rachael Ray – wants to covert America into an all-gay Spanish-speaking terrorist training camp. So there you go.

Whatever. It’s safe to say that while Palin’s performance didn’t single-handedly cost McCain the election (with the exception of Michigan, apparently), it didn’t really change the equation either (if you don’t count the AWESOME Nielsen ratings). And why would it? From what little I saw, Gwen Ifill threw both of them softballs all night. Would it have killed her to ask, “Ms Palin, has it ever occurred to you that the term ‘Joe Six Pack’ isn’t exactly a compliment?”

Which is why I don’t bother watching these things in the first place.
