Sometimes a song gets stuck in yr head. And sometimes it’s by Les Rita Mitsouko.

If it’s MY head, anyway.

Which gets me to thinking how I haven’t inflicted my love of cheesy Europop on you lot nearly enough. So you’ll be seeing some more stuff like this in the coming weeks. Though not necessarily a lot of it. There’s certainly at least four or five more of these I could do before I start relying on Falco videos.

She’s so European,

I’ve been watching movies. And you want to know what I think of them. Thank goodness for the Internets.

Public Enemies

Michael Mann’s take on the John Dillinger saga. I’ve enjoyed all the silly reviews that complain either about the historical inaccuracies or the moral relativism, but really, what else is new? Public Enemies, like any decent gangster film, is about The Legend more than The Real Life Criminal. So taken at face value, it’s pretty entertaining and gripping at times. I also like how it portrays Dillinger as the last of the old school outlaws where robbing banks is becoming old-fashioned and even a pain in the ass for other mobsters who have moved on to other rackets. If the film lacks anything, it’s the context that explains why Dillinger, and gangsters in general, were so romanticized in those days and still are today, especially in places like Chicago. Anyway, it’s no Heat, but for what it is, it’s pretty good.

Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince

It’s been true for some time that the Harry Potter films are really only meant to be Cliff Notes versions for fans who have already read all the backstory in the books, and this one is no different. Suffice to say that only fans who have read the books will know why the Half-Blood Prince is significant in any way, let alone worthy of inclusion in the title. Also, I know this is because I’m old and cranky, but I really can do without the teenage romance stuff.

Wands out,

Sorry, but it was stupid. And Lawrence O’Donnell Jr explains why better than me. Suffice to say I do not subscribe to the “If you talk back to the police it’s yr own fault for getting arrested” line. Nor do I subscribe to the "If you say one officer did something stupid yr calling every police officer in America stupid" line that the Cambridge Police Dept seems to be pushing to get Obama to take back what he said.

And speaking of Obama StupidlyGate, Jon Stewart sums up how I feel about the whole thing (to say nothing of what’s passing for the healthcare debate).

Dumb and dumber,
