ITEM: Whistleblower site Cryptome posts copies of lawful data-interception guides for Yahoo!, Cox Communications, SBC, Cingular, Nextel, GTE and other telecoms and service providers. Yahoo’s lawyers issue Cryptome a DMCA takedown notice demanding their 17-page document be removed, citing copyright infringement.
No surprises there, but the most interesting bit is Yahoo’s price list for handing over yr data:
I’m wondering if I should be insulted that they’ll sell my data for that cheap. But then it’s not like I’m getting any royalties for it.
DISCLAIMER: Note that this kind of thing presumes that the govt has a court-signed warrant to buy yr data. Although honestly, who really knows for sure anymore?
Make me an offer,

Yahoo charges the government about $30 to $40 for the contents, including e-mail, of a subscriber’s account. It charges $40 to $80 for the contents of a Yahoo group.

ITEM: Data presented at the American Association for Cancer Research Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research Conference reveals a “strong inverse association between coffee consumption and the risk of lethal and advanced prostate cancers.”
Kathryn M. Wilson, Ph.D., a postdoctoral fellow at the Channing Laboratory, Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health, says that men who drank the most coffee had a 60% lower risk of aggressive prostate cancer than men who did not drink any coffee.
And people told me that five pots a day was too much. I’m upping it to seven. Just to be safe.
I’ll sleep when I’m dead,

FLYNT VS FLYNTS
Dec. 10th, 2009 11:53 pmITEM: Larry “Hustler” Flynt’s lawsuit against his two nephews – Jimmy Flynt Jr and Dustin Flynt – for trademark infringement is now underway.
Flynt claims the boys’ adult-film business (which they started with their severance cheques after he fired them for slacking) is trading off the Flynt name – which bugs him mainly because their videos aren’t up to the Flynt standard of quality. Which leads to such courtroom exchanges as this:
"I think there's a thin line. As a society we've come to accept what I like to refer to as 'vanilla sex,' " [Flynt] said. "But if you get too trashy, people get uncomfortable."
DeCarlo, the nephews' attorney, took issue with Flynt's assessment of the films as "trashy." He proceeded to show the jury an enlarged image of one of Larry Flynt's films, "Mason's Sluts."
"Is this less trashy or more trashy than my client's product?" DeCarlo asked.
"Your clients are focusing on the boob element, so to speak," Larry Flynt replied. "I just think that's sort of passé, and guys are moving past that."
DISCLAIMER: Team Def has never sampled the work of the Flynt brothers, so cannot comment on the quality of their product. That said, we’ve never really been a fan of Hustler’s gynecology aesthetic either.
On the other hand, Larry Flynt DID give us the Sarah Palin pr0n. And he fought for the right of all Americans to make fun of Jerry Falwell. So I have to give him credit for that.
What have you done for me lately,
