Yr 21st Century Atavist lede of the day:

Not that this is practically unheard of in the 21st Century, as the American Library Association can tell you. And of course Slaughterhouse Five has a long proud history of frightening the easily frightened.
But it’s worth highlighting the M.O., which is all too common – the books were banned because ONE PERSON complained. It’s not like the school board was swamped with angry letters from parents demanding that filthy books be pulled.
(Not that pulling the books would be justified if they had been, but there’s a difference between caving in to a mob and caving in to one crank, let alone a college professor who should know better.)
As for the usual “But c’mon, there’s always Borders Amazon.com” defense, may I direct you to this classic post.
Banned in Missouri,
