And now, some gratuitous Barbara Bouchet dancing to The Twiliters.

If yr wondering, it’s from this movie (the video, not the music).

You may know that Bob Welch killed himself last Thursday. In my hometown, of all places.

So now’s as good a time as any to mention that I have his two hit singles on 45.

At the time they came out, of course, I had no idea who Welch was, let alone his history with Fleetwood Mac (just as I was well aware of who Fleetwood Mac was by then, but had no idea they had been around since the 60s and had originally been a blues band). I just liked the riff on “Ebony Eyes” and the general arrangements of “Sentimental Lady”.

Both of which you can now listen to at yr leisure if you wish.

Also, I confess I was enthralled by the French Kiss album cover – both by the model next to Bob sticking her tongue in his ear (and possibly wearing nothing under that dress), and the fact that Bob was smoking something that was obviously not tobacco. Consequently, I thought it looked both sexy and forbidden.

I was 12, incidentally. So both sex and drugs were exotic concepts to me at the time.

Anyway.

Like most people, I never followed Welch’s career beyond his radio hits. But he was pretty well respected as a guitar player, and it’s a shame he was excluded when Fleetwood Mac were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

I come so together where you are,
