I’m glad that bloggers at the National Review have their pulse on the most important issues facing America today.

Like the fact that gay people are defending us from al Qaeda.

Evidently, Elaine Donnelly of the Center For Military Readiness is furious that an Army medic was outed on 60 Minutes and the Pentagon still hasn’t fired his hot gay ass yet. Which is mainly worth mentioning because the CMR has also been polling the presidential candidates to get their views on whether gays should be serving in the armed forces or not.

Because our success in Iraq depends on it. I guess. You can’t call yr military “ready” if there’s gay people in it. Because everyone knows that queers can’t fight for shit. Or something.

Actually, it’d be great if this actually was an issue, because it would be a perfect time to highlight the fact that we’re so strung out in Iraq and Afghanistan that we can’t afford to turn down volunteers no matter which gender they like to fuck. But you can’t say that in a TV debate, so maybe it’s as well that Ms Donnelly is just another conservative obsessed with all the homos out there trying to ruin America for everyone.

Anyway, as a peacetime combat veteran of the US Army, I find the whole “OMG, there might be gays in the military” thing silly. Of course there are. All you have to do is not tell the recruiter yr gay. It’s really that easy. The whole point is to not be able to know who’s gay and who’s not gay. Then everyone can take showers together and have “big nuts contests” like we used to do and not have to be self-conscious about it.

In fact, for all you know, most of the military is gay already. I mean, if no one’s asking and no one’s telling (or if they were asking and everyone did what they used to do and just lie), how would you know?

That's why I never used to worry about it when I was in. That and I’m not a homophobic waterhead.

FUN FACT: Mike Huckabee and Fred Thompson were the only candidates to respond to the CMR’s questions. And Huckabee was the only one to give complete answers.

FUN FACT: Ms Donnelly is also opposed to women serving in combat units. Which is why she’s never served in the military. Which of course makes her far more qualified than me to say who the military should or shouldn’t allow to serve.

To the rear, march,

This is dF
