THEY CANCELED ALL MY FAVORITE SHOWS

Another tricky one. See, I live in Hong Kong, where (1) local dramas and some imported programs are intentionally produced as limited runs, and (2) all of our US-based programming is syndicated, so renewal is based on different criteria. There’s also the point that technically this could include any TV show no longer running – so I could put Gilligan’s Island if I wanted.

But I’m assuming the category refers to shows that were axed earlier than fans of the show would deem reasonable – which is debatable since many shows go on far longer than they need to just because it has a big enough fan base (I’m talking to you, ER). Anyway, with all that in mind, here’s what I got:

TOP FIVE TV SHOWS TOO DEF TO BE CANCELED

1. Millennium
Granted, it seemed to be losing it’s focus by Season 3, but I was hoping to see where it was ultimately going, and there were plenty of loose ends left unresolved. Plus, as mentioned before, Frank Black was a great character to follow every week.

2. Twin Peaks
Another example of a really good show that started to lose the plot near the end and probably would have worked better as a limited series, but it was a very frustrating cliffhanger to go out on, so that’s why it’s here.

3. The Ben Stiller Show
When people ask me why I’m so disappointed with Ben Stiller’s movie career, I refer them back to his short-lived sketch comedy show. The one where they do Lassie and replace the dog with Charles Manson is priceless. Video evidence follows:

4. The Adventures Of Brisco County, Jr
I suppose America wasn’t ready for a sci-fi Western. Too bad – Brisco County had a lot going for it. Like Bruce F***ing Campbell in a leading role. I mean, what more could you ask for in a TV show?

5. Global Frequency
If yr gonna do a list like this, you got to have a TV show that was canceled before it even made it on the air – especially when it’s based on Warren Ellis’ excellent comic book of the same name. One of the greatest lost opportunities in the history of television.

Honorable mention: The Tick (animated), The Tick (live action, which I never saw but hear was every bit as funny) and Firefly (which I also never saw, but the movie Serenity was great, so I figure I would have dug it).

And "Fire Walk With Me" was technically a prequel, so it didn't even work as a 'finale'.
