ITEM [via Media Buyer Planner]: Small towns across America are fighting an evil plot by al Qaeda to establish digital billboards on American highways.

Well, yes, that IS comic exaggeration. And opponents of digital boards do raise legit issues like light pollution and (more importantly) road safety. And in any case, it’s not like we need more billboards cluttering up the scenery, although if you’ve ever had to drive on the Interstate for more than an hour, trees and farmland get REALLY uninteresting after awhile.
But that’s in the countryside. In areas with a lot of close driving, I don’t blame city councils for considering banning them. The only real benefit is that you’d get one step closer to transforming yr town into a set for Blade Runner. Which is really the only reason I’m in favor of them.
Still, the guy in the Intelligencer story who describes digital billboards as a “nightmare” is laying it on a little thick. It’s like he works for the DOJ or something.
Keep billboards analog,
This is dF
